Bristol Two Club Sprint - Monday 30th August 2010

Club Night - Monday 13th September 2010

The idea is for members to bring photos, programmes, etc etc from any trips they have made to the event, as well as having some DVDs of the event - if anyone has anything suitable could they let us know - perhaps Jaguar in the late 80's, The GT40 era or the early 50's - any suggestions welcome. Perhaps you could let us know if you have anything good to bring and what years they might cover.
This is at the usual venue.

Club Night - Monday 11th October 2010

This will be Table Top Rally / Navigation Tutorial session - Any volunteers to help ?

Pegasus Sprint - Saturday 16th October 2010

The Chepstow Challenge - Sunday 31th October 2010

Following the success of past events we return to Chepstow for more fun around the cones. The event will use the stables area at Chepstow and will be run as an All Forward Autotest giving us a bit of freedom in the layout of the courses and allowing a wider variety of cars to enter. Our aim is to run a fun driving event rather than a memory test - the course layout will use numbered cones and yellow marker cones. If you enjoy Auto Solo you will love this event.

Latest Invitation Events

Perry Roe Memorial Road Rally - 11/12th September 2010

After a short absence, Exeter Motor Club is reviving this event for 2010. Many of you will know this great event as it was the ‘Rally of the Moors’, until the tragic death of Perry Roe in 2006.

It is a round of the ASWMC Open, Novice, and Endurance Navigational Road Rally Championships. There will also be a clubman permit event running alongside, for which competitors will not require competition licences. This section of the event will be closed to club, but 2 memberships to Exeter Motor Club, for the remainder of 2010, are included in the clubman entry. This is to encourage total beginners who may have done some 12 car navigational exercises to have a taste of the next level. Anyone having competed on a Nat B Road event previously will not qualify for an award, but can compete for the experience or practice etc.

The entry fee will be £55 up until August the 10th 2010, and from then until the close of entries will be £65. For entry contact Chris Smale 01752 767324 rallychief @blueyonder.co.uk. Regs and entry form available to download from Exeter Motor Club Website

Road events are currently going through a difficult time. It is our belief that we have weathered the storm and things are getting better.

We have some of the best lanes in the country for road events, and it would be a crime, if we allowed the use of them for road rallies to die out. We will continue to work very hard over the remaining weeks to make this event work within the current framework. That is our part; your part is to support us with your entry.

Navigation will be by pre printed map handouts, so no plot and bash. Any whites will be able to be driven in a standard car, with care. There will be no tricks, nothing hidden, nothing devious. So come and have a fun enjoyable night, after all that’s what it’s about.

We will need loads of marshals, so if you can’t support us with an entry, support us by marshalling, free breakfast for 2 controls

  • To all ASWMC Richard Egger Car Trials contenders and participating clubs
    6 September 2010 12:59:00

It appears that Minehead Motor Club have been refused a National B permit by the MSA for their Treborough Trial (near Dunster) on September 19th on the grounds that they have not sufficient experience in this type of event! We will be taking this matter up with the M.S.A. in due course but the Minehead have consequently decided that the event will run as a clubsport event only.

ASWMC members who are intending to compete should contact Chris Priddy on 01643 708483 for details and to secure an invitation, entries I believe may be taken on the day.

Subject to objection from higher authority we hope to still retain this as a counting event for the championship. (There are in fact proposals on the next M.S.A. council agenda to allow clubsport events to count in area championships for 2011)

  • ASWMC Richard Egger Car Trials Championship News
    22 August 2010 19:09:00

Stroud & Dist. MotorClub’s Clifford Hooper trial at Cam, although attracting a splendid entry for the clubsport event, disappointingly only fielded two entries for the National B event and only one was an ASWMC contender. Consequently my 7 points for the championship were scarcely well earned. Where were you all?

This does mean however, with two more events and 18 points still available, the Championship is still there for the taking. Derek Barnes remains in the lead and although I have moved up into an uncomfortable second place, Duncan Stephens, Tristan White, Paul Bartleman or Dave Oliver are all potential champions if they contest the remaining rounds.

Minehead Motor Club host the next round on September 19th. at Treborough, one of their delightful venues in the Brendon Hills south of Minehead in Exmoor Clouds country. We hope this event will be better supported than recent rounds. A better entry than that in the last four rounds is really badly needed in order to justify the continuation of this Championship by the ASWMC.

  • ASWMC Car Trials Championship update
    25 July 2010 23:00:00

Attached is the current championship table as it stands after the Holsworthy M.C. Crackington event last weekend. This new venture attracted a healthy 25 entries, but mainly for the clubsport event, only 2 championship contenders competing, classic triallists Dick Bolt and Simon Groves who finished 3rd and 4th in their Escorts in class 4, to gain 6 and 5 points respectively to elevate them to equal 7th place in the championship above David Robinson (whose Reliant SS is having a troublesome engine transplant) and David Haizelden.

This new highly scenic venue provided an entertaining days sport, the majority of the entries being new to Car trials, with no less than 13 declaring themselves as novices! Overall winner was Andrew Martin (Escort) who dropped only 2 points all day on the drying out sections which had to be increasingly tightened to provide a suitable challenge. This was apparently achieved, as the spread of points dropped ranged from 2 to 130! Outstanding performance of the day however was probably that of novice(!) Andy Seward of trials sidecar fame, 4th overall in an unballasted FWD Suzuki Alto, who dropped only 18 points.

An experimental special test slalom section around cones was not in fact needed for its intended function as a tie breaker, but I think it provided much additional entertainment for competitors and spectators alike.

Having now received final results from Bristol Pegasus and Camel Vale and revised my scoring for the Lanjew trial the only change being my loss of 3 points. Resulting in dropping to 3rd place behind championship leader Derek Barnes and Duncan Stephens.

Still (just ) time to enter for the next round, Stroud and District’s Cliff Hooper Trial next Sunday (1st August) at Dursley, (tel Alison Eamey 01453 883105) With 3 counting rounds left to go and a possible 27 points available the 2010 championship is still wide open to anyone with ambitions!

In conclusion members of all ASWMC clubs have been invited by John Ludford to participate in Wolverhampton and South Staffs prestigious Gabby Mohr Car Trial on Sunday 5th September, near Bridgenorth with a view to possibly adding this event to the championship in 2011. Maybe a long way to travel for those in the far South-west but certainly a useful alternative round for our Midland and Cotwolds contenders who are unable to make the long journey for the Devon or Cornwall rounds.. The ASWMC Classic championship already embraces the Clee Hills trial in Shropshire so I don’t see why this should not happen.

Entries close 31st August so plenty of time to enter. Regs and details from John Ludford on 01922 407333

  • Richard Egger ASWMC Car Trials Championship update
    29 June 2010 21:00:00

Round 4 of the 2010 championship. Ross and District’s Wye Valley Car Trial took place last Sunday. The wonderful sunny day did nothing to alleviate the recent extremely dry spell and Simon Harris’s ability was taxed to provide any challenge under the almost unprecedented grippy conditions. This he achieved magnificently however as the spread of scores demonstrated, from a lowest overall of 16 (Tristan White in the class 8 ex Anne Templeton Troll) up to almost 200 in class 2.

Overall winner( on index of performance) was Duncan Stephens(Nova) actual score 65 just ahead of Barrie Parker (Scirocco) on 69.

There was an excellent entry of nine ASWMC championship contenders, the best for quite some time, Derek Barnes, Punto (class 1) on 142, Duncan,( class 2,) Dave Oliver (Imp)Class 3 on 28, Paul Bartleman(Escort) class 4 on 38 and Tris White class 8, all achieved max points as class leaders, although only class 4 had sufficient contenders in the class to justify 9 points for Paul, the others all scored 8 ahead of my X90, class 3, on 118, Nigel Weeks( Imp) Class 4, on 45 and Richard Grove(ABS Freestyle) class 8 on 29, all 2nd in class, with 7 points. (For anyone confused by this (join the club!)only registered championship contenders are actually counted in the class, as a result of this there has been a slight revision downwards to some earlier points scorers, fortunately not changing any positions )

Dave Haizelden in the Golf was 3rd in class 4 dropping 65, (7 points)and Kelly Thomas, who sportingly dropped out to save Paul’s escort from terminal overheating, earned just 1 point for starting.

As a result Derek Barnes is still in the lead of the championship with 32 points, now 4 points ahead of myself, we being the only two to have competed in all 4 rounds so far. 3rd place is now contested by Dave Oliver, Duncan Stephens and Paul Bartleman all on 17. with Tristan White and David Haizelden just 1 point behind. With 4 more rounds available all of these are still in with an excellent chance.

Wolverhampton & South Staffordshire Car Club have kindly invited all ASWMC Car Trial contenders to participate in their prestigious Gabby Mohr championship trial at Bridgenorth on September 5th. Any one who might be interested in this opportunity to compete in the North West Midlands should contact John Ludford at theludfords@btinternet.com for further details.

  • ASWMC Car Trial Championship positions after Lanjew trial.
    27 May 2010 10:35:58

Seven championship contenders actually participated in Camel Vale's well supported Lanjew trial, even though five were only entered for the Clubsport event. This gave me a problem and I have (controversially ) awarded them all points on this occasion maybe to encourage them to enter the National B event in future, (especially as four of them are consequently sharing fourth place in the championship!) This is subject to any objections from other contenders!

Extremely dry and unusually grippy conditions challenged the organisers ingenuity considerably, but they nevertheless acheived a very satisfactory result. Derek Barnes, in his latest Fiat Punto Sporting, travelled down from the Midlands to achieve another class 0 win to strengthen his lead in the Championship with 26 points, while in the absence of David Robinson's Reliant SS (undergoing an engine and transmission transplant) I gained a few more points as the only class 5 entry with the Suzuki. to move ahead of David in 2nd place Paul Bartleman, Tristan White, Simon Groves and David Haizelden all won their classes to equal Duncan Stephens and David Oliver in 4th place in the championship, all on 9 points, but all this will change I am sure after the next round at Ross and District's prestigious Wye Valley trial at Putley Common, Ledbury on June 27th. for which regs have been circulated. See you there?
