What is a Sprint?

A speed event on private ground in which cars are timed from a standing start over a set course on good quality tarmac to a flying finish to an accuracy of 1/100th of a second. Courses are generally between 1 and 2 miles long, the Pegasus course at Colerne being 2300 yards - with an assortment of bends. Cars start singly and should not catch one another so there is no element of racing. Normally each entry will get two practice and two competitive runs. Classes are split on car type and engine capacity, all types of car being catered for. Pegasus MC events (and many others) include special classes for road going production cars (some modifications may be required for safety reasons).

The Pegasus MC uses courses at Colerne Airfield near Bath and a full lap event at Castle Combe race circuit.

Cars and competitors

Sprint events can cater for all types of cars, from standard roadgoing saloon and sports cars to specialised competition cars. For the Pegasus Sprint all cars must be silenced as for normal road use and the majority of entrants will be in road-going vehicles. In addition to local competitors from the South West the event is also open to members of various national car clubs, including BMW, MG, Ford RS and Morgan.

Sprinting is basically an amateur sport, competitors coming from a wide variety of occupations and backgrounds, and is currently extremely popular, especially in the West Country. With most existing events being oversubscribed there is a strong demand for more events and new venues.
