Monday 7th February 2011 - BPMC Club Night - A Talk by Max Tyler

A Talk by Max Tyler

Racewear.co.uk is Britain's online racewear specialist - from your desktop to your doorstep. Max has been been in the business since 1982 and knows a thing or two about motor racing overalls, gloves, boots and accessories. Max currently has a project '160 for 360' and blog detailing its progress. "It seemed like a good idea - the Porsche 924 I'd just bought for £160 would be an ideal car to represent racewear.co.uk racing with midgetmax.com in the 360MRC's 6-hour race at Snetterton in April 2011." Hear more when he comes to talk to us in February.

Saturday 19th February 2011 - BMC Castle Combe AutoSolo

Bristol Motor Club have invited Bristol Pegasus Motor club members to the inaugural running of their Castle Combe AutoSolo, which will take place in the paddock at the circuit on Saturday 19 February. Friday 25th February 2011 - Club Trip - Race Retro Show

Our annual trip to the Race Retro Show at Stonleigh

Race Retro on Friday 25th February, always a good Club outing and regarded by increasing numbers as the best show of the year.

Once again BPMC are running a mini coach though this year we will be charging a nominal £5 that will go a very little way to helping bus hire / fuel. We will be stopping for food and/or refreshment at a very excellent hostelry on the return journey.

If you want to book your seat we suggest you get in touch as soon as possible; already we have had a number of bookings even before it had been advertised!

Martin will again endeavour to obtain a group-booking discount.

Call Martin Emsley now on 01454 250067 to reserve your seat NOW or e-mail martin@emsley.ndo.co.uk

Friday 4th March 2011 - BPMC Navigation Exercise

Andy Moss organises - Note New Date which replaces the previously advertised dates for February and March Navigation events.

The event will start from map reference 172/ 652.5 688 which is the car park in Keynsham at 7.30pm. The route will cover 25 miles and Andy promises straight forward navigation with plenty of help available for novices. We will finish at the Globe at Newton St Loe around 10pm so we are in plenty of time for a drink and a chat.

The emphasis will be on a fun evening with a good social at the end rather than cryptic navigation. Members are welcome to join us at the finish pub even if you are not entering.

Monday 14th March 2011 - BPMC Club Night - A Talk by Martin Groves

The 2010 British Hillclimb Champion

Martin Groves, three-time former champion, has taken the top spot for a fourth time at the wheel of his Gould/Cosworth GR55. In the second runoff at Doune, Groves stopped the clocks over half a second quicker than championship rival Scott Moran to take the title with two rounds remaining. In addition to his overall victory, he also set three new hill records along the way. It was a determined and hard-fought victory. British hillclimbing is all about ultimate speed and precision, and even 1/100 of a second can and often does make the difference between winning or not.

Prodrive is one of the world's leading motorsport businesses. Saturday 2nd April 2011 - BPMC Castle Combe Test Day

This event has moved from August to April for this year, so don't miss out on getting your session tickets before they are all gone.

Monday 11th April 2011 - BPMC Club Night

Please note that we have moved venue. We will now meet in the upstairs function room of the The Parkway, 43 North Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol BS34 8PB. And the same venue for future nights.

For more details view the Club Nights page.

Sunday 17th April 2011 - BPMC Trial

Our Production Car Car Trial is being held on the 17th of April 2011 at Lower Grove Farm, Highridge Road, Dundry, Near Bristol. Map Reference 554½ 673½ .

The venue is superb for an event of this type and should offer a challenge for most.

So what is a Production Car Trial? Well, simply it's a Trial that you can do in an ordinary road car. Entrants will need a vehicle, a driver and a navigator/bouncer – whose job it will be to jump about in the passenger seat to maintain traction when the going gets a bit slippy. If you don't have a passenger, don't worry – you can always grab a fellow competitor to sit in.

Anyone who has seen a more specialist Trial and gazed on in awe whilst thinking: "how on earth do they get up/across/through something like that?!" may now be thinking "there's no way my car would be suitable". Worried about ground clearance, losing the sump or suspension damage? To put those minds at rest, rather than the often heavily rutted tracks used in Classic Trials, the venue is a grassy field.

If you fancy having a go but are lacking a suitable vehicle, get in touch and we'll try to pair up any would-be bouncers with drivers as far as possible. If you'd like to be involved but can't find a driver (or still have concerns about damaging your pride and joy), you could always come along and marshal! We could also do with someone to help with checking over the cars before the start and also need a club steward.

A brilliant fun afternoon with your ordinary road car
Entry Just £10 - Any car is suitable

Monday 9th May 2011 - Club Night

Grand Prix Theme - Bring your photos, programmes etc

Following our first club night visit to the Parkway in Stoke Gifford last month, the May club night will again be an informal affair. We plan to bring the video projector along and we are going to have a Grand Prix theme - as well as having film from memorable Grand Prix of the past, we are asking members to bring along programmes, photos and memorabilia from events they have attended, whether the British Grand Prix or further afield - this format has proved fun in the past and there will be plenty of opportunity for a drink and chat.

Please note that we have moved venue. We will now meet in the upstairs function room of the The Parkway, 43 North Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol BS34 8PB.

For more details view the Club Nights page.

Monday 16th May 2011 - BPMC Treasure Hunt

Our first Treasure Hunt of 2011. Bob Bull will be running this Treasure Hunt. The start is at Gordano Services and the finish is at the Rudgleigh on the A369. As usual we'll aim to start at 7:30 and there will be time for a drink and a chat at the end.

Monday 30th May 2011 - BPMC Llandow Track Day

Notification of Cancellation of Sprint & Replacement Track Day Information

Yesterday was the closing date for entries for the Bristol Llandow Sprint. Despite our efforts to encourage more entries and reduce costs, we are still some way below the minimum entry and a viable event. We have therefore reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the event.

We apologise for the disappointment this will cause. We have not cashed any cheques received, and these will be securely destroyed.

In order to go some way to fill the gap created by the loss of the Sprint we have arranged a Track Day at Llandow on the same date – the costs, and therefore the minimum entry, for this are much lower. The entry price is £65, which we believe is excellent value for money. An additional driver sharing a car can be added for only £15.
The key features are:

  • All types of car accepted
  • No competition licence required
  • No special equipment required other than a suitable crash helmet
  • 40 places maximum
  • Separate sessions for single-seaters
  • Noise limit 105dbA at 0.5 metre

Entry details are in the booking form link below and entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis – you can reserve your place before posting your form by e-mailing cherryzrobinson@hotmail.com.

Monday 20th June 2011 - BPMC Treasure Hunt

OK, so the solstice this year is actually on 21st but it's close enough :-)

John & Liz Corfield will be running this Treasure Hunt and have decided to use the area South of Bristol between Bath and Chew Valley Lake. The start and finish will The Brassmill, Keynsham (Avon Mill Lane, Bristol, BS31 2UG). As usual we'll aim to start at 7:30 but we'll stay in the car park for 20 minutes in case anyone arrives later. The hunt, as drafted so far, is 25 miles giving a nominal finish time of 10:30 but we might cut that back nearer to 20 miles to cater for those who have a distance to travel to get home and then have to get up for work next day :-(

Please contact John Corfield, 07717677271, john_e_f_corfield@hotmail.com if you have any questions.

If you have a historic vehicle there is the opportunity for your vehicle to be displayed with similar aged/style vehicles in the paddock and you also will be able to demonstrate the vehicle on track as part of parade of cars from each decade on track together. There will also be a “historically interesting” class as part of the sprint and competitors can enjoy the evening celebrations camping overnight at the circuit before the centenary event on Sunday. Monday 15th August - Club Night & Driving Tests Easton-in-Gordano / Rudgleigh Inn - Change of Date

NOTE CHANGE OF DATE - THE AUGUST CLUB NIGHT MOVES 1 WEEK LATER

Something a little different for the August Club Night which moves a week later than previously advertised, to avoid a busy weekend before the original date. We have been offered the use of a field near Easton-in-Gordano belonging to club member John Puzey, and we will be setting out some simple fun driving tests. The plan is for this to be a social activity, rather than a serious competition, so you can turn up in your ordinary road car and have a bit of fun on the tests that take your fancy. There will be no charge to enter. Even if you don't want to drive you can still have a laugh at everyone else.... After we have had some fun we will retire to the Rudgleigh Inn for a drink and a chat. To make the most of the remaining summer sun we will start earlier than normal around 7pm - more details next month, but make sure you put the date in your diary

The event will use the stables area at Chepstow and will be run as an All Forward Autotest giving us a bit of freedom in the layout of the courses and allowing a wider variety of cars to enter. Our aim is to run a fun driving event rather than a memory test - the course layout will use numbered cones and yellow marker cones. If you enjoy Auto Solo you will love this event.

Click here to download supplementary regulations or from Martin Emsley, come and join the fun. Marshals also required please.

We're returning to an old venue this year: Dyrham Wood, off the A46 (OS LandRanger Ref. ST742742; nearest postcode SN14 8LF).

As usual we will need a group of marshals to help run the event. It is not a long day and it's both rewarding & entertaining. Chapelhay Catering (Alan & Mo Richards) will be on-site with their usual high-class service. It's a very friendly discipline, and you will rarely get thanked personally by as many competitors in any other form of Motor Sport.
